The neck supports...

I consider myself old school. Not totally so, though. How do I put this? Hmmm. Ok, I'm the girl that believes in speaking up when you have something to say and I believe nobody has any right to stop you. I believe everyone, EVERYONE, has a right to their opinion. So please feel free to lemme know your 2cents on this issue.

I'm old fashioned, but not excessively so. If I'm single, I will have a fling or two, body no be wood, ya know. When its a serious man, I'm that girl that has to be wooed and then when the relationship starts and gets stronger, I'm that girl that wants to be on the same page with her partner, I want us to make decisions together and at the same time, I need him to take charge as long as he is healthy. Understand me, please. I want us to think together but as long as he's alive and not invalid or convalescent, I want him to take charge and still keep in mind that we're partners, so I need him to ask my input on issues and use them, if need be. I need him, whether or not I earn more than he does to talk to me like an equal, scold me,when I'm naughty albeit with respect. In this vein, on my part, because I'm human, I agree that its easy to get carried away *whats that thing they say about power and inebriation? I forget, now but I shall try my best to keep in mind that the man is the head, while I am his neck, he makes the decisions and I am there to support him and move him in the right direction.

Recently, I've seen situations where, bite me if you like, a rude, unintelligent, unpleasant AND unattractive female finds herself a man, God alone knows how *i guess there really is someone for everybody*, and he does everything she asks him to do. EVERYTHING. Not like he has a choice given the fact that he might not eat dinner tonight if he doesn't considering he has no job.

So ladies, is this enough reason for a man to become a bitch? Money or not, does the fact that he has penile function guarantee he remains the head in a conjugal situation? Or is there some unwritten code that allows this kinds of stuff? Please tell me. Ladies, let's talk! Guys, I'd like to hear your opinions too

We still look good ;o)

Growing up, I didn’t know a lot about diseases. I knew about measles, mumps and chicken pox because either I or my brothers had contacted one or the other at one time. I didn’t know anything about sickle cell but since I read a lot, I knew it was something that had to do with the blood and sickle shaped cells that made you very ill. Left to me, it was none of my business because it didn’t affect me or anyone I knew directly *shrugs*. 

Fast forward to high school, QC had loads and loads of girls from different backgrounds, tall, short, fat, thin and of course, girls of different genotypes. Yes, by now I knew the meanings and differences between blood groups and genotypes ;o) One particular classmate of mine struck me the most. She was VERY pretty, her hair cascaded down her back and her complexion could be described as golden. She was loads and loads of fun (she still is, if I might add), very friendly and she had loads of admirers *wink*. 

Knowing all these, it made me sad when she'd miss school for days on end, due to illnesses caused by her SS genotype. I could only imagine the sort of pain she went through but before u knew it she was back in school, her same old bubbly self, smiling and laughing everywhere and you momentarily forgot about the illness until it resurfaced again, which like a thief in the night, it always did. Her pretty feline eyes would get yellow, she'd lose weight and she'd be unusually quiet. And then she'd bounce back again. It was a very annoying cycle. 

Now we're older and wiser, we try to manage these things; we continually learn new ways to keep ourselves safe and health. Bukola is still my friend and she's still very beautiful. Imagine how much more beautiful she would be without the scourge of this deadly disease known as the sickle cell anaemia.  Regardless, she’s still one of the flyest and prettiest people I know. Discovered thousands of years ago, a cure is yet to be found. 

While we sit, wait and pray, we might as well do things to make life easier while we live in this world with this disease. I would like to give props to Tosyn Bucknor for her "Jeans for genes" initiative, a tee shirt and jeans party tagged “Looking good in these genes”. The 2nd edition of this event comes up at 3pm on the 27th of March 2010 at Swe Bar, City Mall, Onikan, Lagos to raise awareness on this disease as well as try to help a lady living with sickle cell pay her hospital bills.  The event will feature fashion shows by tee shirt designers including Strictly Naija, Imagine clothing,  Toni Payne, OUCH, Happy Faces et cetera  with music by S.K.A.L.E.S., Dipp, Skuki, Lami, Hakym the Dream, Zara, Overdose, Willy Bang, Loose Kaynon, Mo Cheddah and others. We’ll come out and party because we know that despite the shape of our blood cells, we still look good. There’ll also be t-shirts and accessories for sale as well as a photo shoot and models on a runway *wink*. I'm BACK!!!

Wow, its been almost a year. If i remember clearly, the last time i updated was Christmas of '08. No? What do they say about water and bridges again? Let's just put it this way....its been forever. I'm going to do a complete overhaul of my blog. i dont think i want to go the whole music and award show route. i'll just make it a simple "about me" blog. Afterall, its "Life according to Boogie", innit? I have to credit my "blogger come back" to some of the beautiful and talented bloggers i recently met. Because of them, i have chosen to commit this stupid writer's block of mine into the abyss. I have concluded, it's of the devil :o So this'll serve as an intro on things to come. Grammy nominations are in!!!

I'm even confused too. This blog's beginning to seem to me like an award show blog. I get so damn excited when an awards show's around the corner. Pls y'all don't blame me. Put the blame on my SICKENING love for music. Put the blame on that. Anyways,on Wednesday, the list of nominations for the 51st Grammy Awards were announced with Weezy leading the pack of very diverse artists. This is definitely his year. Li'l Wayne earned eight nominations, followed by Coldplay with seven and Jay Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West taking six. Coldplay, Li'l Wayne, Ne-Yo, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and Radiohead are all up for the coveted, Album of the Year. The Grammys'll air live on CBS from the Staples Center on Feb. 8, 2009. And y'all in Naija know how to watch it if u're interested. We know our way round these things and as for those that don't, keep it locked on 9jaboogie. Its such a beautiful thing and i hope this is just the beginning. We sure are going for bigger things. Congratulations to all the winners and all y'all others tighten ur game for next year,ok. My two cents: President Barack Obama

Before, i begin, i should make it very clear : I AM NOT AMERICAN, NEVER LIVED IN THE UNITED STATES AND NEVER EVEN BEEN TO AMERICA. Even at that, i'm extremely excited about the outcome of the 4/11/08 elections. Enough of all the crap little people go through on a regular, enough of "senior citizens who can't relate" governance, enough of the rich getiing richer and the poor getting poorer. We don't know yet exactly what it means for us, Nigerians in Nigeria, but i know in my heart that its a step in making the world a better place. Basically, enough of all the bullshit. Its a new day.
Its time for change!!! This is a little tribute to a new day. Yes we will!!!
